ADDITIONAL CARE
Viola plants can be planted as soon as the threat of hard frost has passed in early April. Violas thrive in cooler spring and fall weather, but will also grow in mid-summer if deadheaded to maintain constant blooms. Viola plant like well-drained soil and can develop root rot or mold on their leaves if grown in standing water or under very tight conditions. When grown in pots, avoid overwatering and utilize it as an understory for larger plants to provide shade during the summer heat.
Like other flowers, the viola plants benefit from fertilized soil in order to create strong roots, leaves, and flowers, but don’t overuse it or the stems will become long and lanky. Medium fertilizer may be applied before, during, and after flowering. Viola plants did not require pruning other than deadheading spent flowers on a regular basis and trimming back if plants become too lanky, letting plants regrow into stockier form.
