PLANT CARE ( Ice Plant | Carpobrotus Edulis )
|Ice Plant grows best in temperatures between 40° – 58° degrees Fahrenheit (4° C – 14°C).|
|This plant prefers full sun, which allows them to flower profusely. Sun starved plants tend to get leggy.|
|Ice Plant | Carpobrotus Edulis is not a fan of environments with high humidity.|
|Water your ice plant sparingly, if at all, during the growing season.|
Since Ice Plant | Carpobrotus Edulis are succulents, they cannot tolerate soil too moist during the late winter months. When kept consistently dry it can become an invasive plant. Allow the soil to dry out a bit between each watering, especially during the winter when the plant is dormant. If you want additional flowers, plant them in a container and feed the plant a balanced fertilizer following the directions provided on the label. If planted in the ground, feed the soil if it’s poor quality or if you don’t see enough blooms for your liking. However, the ice plant can be propagated by division, cuttings, or seeds. If propagating by division, it is best to divide the plants in the spring. When grown by seeds, scatter the seeds on the surface of the soil and do not cover them, as they need light to germinate. Once they are established, Carpobrotus Edulis plants require little maintenance. As succulents, they need very little watering and thrive in drought-like conditions. In addition, these plants need little to no fertilizing.
