ADDITIONAL CARE
Green Leaf Lettuce is a simple annual vegetable to grow. Lettuce is a spring and fall crop that thrives in cool temperatures. Additionally, Leaf Lettuce prefers cool temperatures. Plant leaf lettuce as soon as the soil is useable in the spring. Moreover, in the spring and fall, the best place to grow lettuce is in full sunlight. However, growing lettuce from seed in late summer may require a lot of artificial shade to keep the soil cool enough for plant growth. Lettuce thrives in loose, cool soil with good drainage. Additionally, organic materials, such as compost or manure, will improve drainage, provide essential nutrients, and improve the growing conditions of your lettuce.
Aphids can easily affect the Green Leaf Lettuce Patch. As nutrients and water are sucked away, the leaves curl the affected leaves. Aphids can also spread disease and cause mould problems. However, these vexing little white pests can be found on the inner side of lettuce leaves. If you notice your lettuce starting to brown and curl, it may be suffering from tipburn, a physiological condition. Tipburn is common on lettuce when moisture levels fluctuate. Therefore, simply trim the browned lettuce and start a regular watering schedule.
