PLANT CARE ( Amaryllis Bulbs )
Keep the Amaryllis plant indoors until the temperature outside reaches the high 50 °F.
Amaryllis Bulbs thrive in full or partial sunlight. Place them near a wall or fence so that they are safe from high winds but receive plenty of light.
Amaryllis does not require misting or high humidity.
Water your amaryllis at least once a week. The soil should be kept moist at all times. |
ADDITIONAL CARE
When an Amaryllis Bulbs bud forms, the plant needs a period of rest. Watering is lowered in the autumn; after the leaves are yellow, the plant is stopped and placed in a dry, warm, unexpected area for 2-3 months. Even during dry conditions, water only once a week to avoid stem rot and red rust. Never water over the bulb nose; instead, water around the edges. Flowering will occur during the months of December and March. One or two sprays of Mancozeb fungicide may be effective. Cut flower stems close to the bulb when flowering is over. The bulb can then be removed from the pot and planted in the garden or a larger pot if desired.
Cut the flower branch back to just above the bulb after the flowers die. Continue to water the plant until it becomes dormant in the fall. For the summer, transfer the amaryllis outside and place it in partial shade. Amaryllis bulbs, like daffodils, will form side bulbs. Once the parent plant has gone dormant and its flowers have died—typically late winter to early spring for outdoor plants and the fall for indoor plants—you may carefully remove these bulbils and pot them to grow more plants.
